The Lovers Apparel

This was painted for an art project on consumerism. And I always hate doing art on this topic, because it's oh so very overdone when it comes to art classes =__= But I had no choice, so I went for something at least a little less cliche.

My intention for this was to portrait the consumerism of art itself and how the possession of certain works is used as a status symbol. And I don't think it's just me who thinks this is an ironic use of art x3

So yeah, this is a remake of Rene Magritte's "The Lovers" (done in oils on canvas). And over the sacks on their heads I put a bit of the logos for both Armani and Gucci. I used these two labels because they're fairly well known, as is Magritte's work, and they're incredibly chic.

And incidentally, this use of designer labels with the composition of the original artwork of "The Lovers" created a theme of attraction to people simply for the symbols they can afford to wear. This was just a secondary theme though, and I didn't even realize I was doing it until halfway through xD
